Govt extends general holidays till April 11
However, rickshaw, van, train, bus services will be reopened gradually

The government has extended the ongoing general holidays till April 11 to curb the spread of the novel coronavirus in the country, however, vehicular movement will return to normalcy gradually.
"With the previously announced holidays from March 26 to April 4, the holiday will continue till April 9 and weekly holidays of April 10 and 11 will be added to it," the Public Administration Ministry said in a gazette notification in this regard today.
Vehicles of emergency services including electricity, water, gas, fire service, cleaning, telephone and internet will be out of purview of the restrictions. Besides, same order will be applicable for vehicles carrying agricultural goods, fertilizers, food, medicine and other daily essentials.
Offices can be kept open in case of emergency. Pharmaceuticals and export-oriented factories can remain open too during the holidays.
According to the circular, rickshaw, van, train, bus services will be reopened gradually.
Earlier on March 23, the government declared a 10-day shutdown, effective from March 26 to April 4, to combat the spread of the coronavirus. The government also imposed containment measures including social distancing since March 24 across the country.
Bangladesh has so far confirmed six deaths and 54 infections from Covid-19.
