Locals protest against admitting corona patient in Uttara hospitals

The residents of Sector 11 in the capital's Uttara area protested against the treatment of coronavirus infected patients in a hospital in their sector on Sunday.

The protesters surrounded the Regent Hospital on road 17 in the sector on Sunday at 8 pm.

Uttara West Police Station has confirmed the matter to The Business Standard. 

Tapan Chandra Saha, the officer-in-charge (OC) of the Uttara West police Station, said that the hospital has a memorandum of understanding with the health ministry to provide treatment to the coronavirus infected patients. 

"Local people and the sector welfare association claim that they will be at risk of coronavirus infection if infected patients come to the hospital. We told them that the ministry has permitted the hospital to treat these patients," said OC Saha.

"We brought the situation under control later. Then the local people moved away from the hospital," he added. 

When called on the hotline number of Regent hospital, Al-Amin Rahihan, a duty staff member of the hospital said, "The hospital has not admitted any coronavirus patients. A decision will be taken according to the government's directives." 

Sharifur Rahman, general secretary of the Uttara sector 11 welfare association, was unavailable for comment on the incident.
