IDLC extends support to 9,000 families in need

Millions of low-income people in Bangladesh are now facing decline in their earnings due to the enforcement of strict lockdown to curb the second wave of the coronavirus since 14 April this year.

During this time of crisis, IDLC Finance Limited, the largest non-banking financial institution has taken an initiative to stand beside the daily-wage earners and lower-middle-class families.

As part of this move, the company launched a programme of food distribution and other daily essentials on Wednesday. Each family will receive 10 days of food support which includes rice, lentil, oil, potato, onion, salt, and other necessary items, according to a press release.

Under this month-long programme, IDLC will support 9,000 families across the country in partnership with four other non-profit voluntary organisations.

As part of the partnership, Obhizatrik Foundation, CSR Window Bangladesh, Mastul Foundation and Shombhabona, will be the on-ground implementation partner to distribute food packages among 9,000 daily wage earners and lower-middle-class families in 30 districts.

Being a socially responsible organisation, IDLC has been conducting several initiatives since the pandemic to tackle its multifaceted impacts on the lives of low-income communities.

In 2020, IDLC implemented a relief programme through which 30,000 low-income people received food support for a week. IDLC had also donated Tk2.4 crore to the Prime Minister's welfare fund last year to combat the Covid-19.
