World Walking Day celebrated in Cox’s Bazar beach
The event was led by the social organisation Let’s Walk, which aims to raise awareness about the importance of regular walking for a healthier lifestyle

Cox's Bazar, known for its scenic beauty, became the focal point of a special celebration today (19 february), World Walking Day under the theme "a life free from conflict and anxiety is our shared desire."
The event was led by the social organisation Let's Walk, which aims to raise awareness about the importance of regular walking for a healthier lifestyle.
The rally, which began at 12pm, saw a diverse group of participants including local residents, tourists, students, and members of the tourist police. The procession made its way along the beach, culminating at Sugandha Point, where participants gathered to celebrate the day's significance.
Jannatul Mawa Ruma, the event's founder and Asia's first woman to cross international borders on foot told media, "Walking boosts immunity, improves mental well-being, and helps prevent serious health issues like diabetes, cancer, and kidney diseases.
"It's a simple but powerful habit that promotes long-term health and vitality," she added.
Ruma, who has been leading the effort to make World Walking Day global, further said, "Although World Walking Day isn't recognised worldwide yet, it's gaining popularity. With more people getting involved, we can turn it into a global movement,"
Inspector Tapan Talukder of the tourist police echoed Ruma's views, stating that the rally not only encouraged local participation but also brought attention to the importance of walking for both tourists and residents alike.
"Walking helps improve physical fitness and mental health. By raising awareness here at Cox's Bazar, we hope to inspire others to make walking a regular part of their lifestyle," he said.
Since 2014, when Ruma first introduced the concept in Bangladesh, World Walking Day has grown in popularity. The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare officially recognised the day in 2020, and it is now observed annually on 19 February.
