Woman arrested in Barishal for pouring hot water on 14-year-old domestic worker

Police have arrested the wife of an expatriate in Barishal's Mehendiganj upazila over allegations of pouring hot water on a 14-year-old domestic worker, causing burn injuries.
Confirming the matter, Mehendiganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mizanur Rahman said a case has been filed by the victim's family over the alleged torture and that the accused was sent to jail today (28 February) following arrest.
The incident occurred in Charhogla village under Mehendiganj. The injured girl is currently admitted to Mehendiganj Upazila Health Complex for treatment.
The accused, Faiza Akter, wife of expatriate Zahir Talukder, was arrested in a drive conducted by Mehendiganj Police Station last night.
The victim, Lamia, said she had been working at the house for nearly six years. During this period, she was allegedly subjected to physical abuse on various pretexts.
She alleged that on Thursday (26 February), late at night, following a trivial incident, the woman poured hot water on her, causing burns to different parts of her body. She further claimed that she was initially prevented from receiving medical treatment.
The next morning, Lamia managed to escape and sought shelter with her maternal uncle, Sirajul Islam, who lives in the same area. She was later admitted to Mehendiganj Upazila Health Complex.
