Verdict against Hasina will stand as a milestone in resisting dictatorship: Islami Andolan
"This day of the verdict is a day of joy for the nation," he said
Islami Andolan Bangladesh Secretary General Maulana Yunus Ahmad has described the death sentence verdict handed down by the International Crimes Tribunal against ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina as "a milestone in the nation's political history in resisting dictatorship."
In a statement sent to the media today (17 November), he said the verdict has fulfilled the expectations of oppressed people and established a precedent for justice against state repression.
"Fascist forces had established a wide criminal network in the country. This verdict is only the beginning of the judicial process against that network," he said.
The Islami Andolan leader also demanded that all those responsible be gradually brought to justice.
Hoping for justice to be served, Yunus said, "The law will take its own course — that is our expectation. It is now the government's responsibility to complete the required legal procedures swiftly and implement the verdict."
"This day of the verdict is a day of joy for the nation," he added.
However, he also urged everyone not to take the law into their own hands and engage in any acts of violence.
