Uttar Badda lynching key suspect arrested

The Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police on Tuesday arrested the key suspect in the lynching of Taslima Begum Renu who had been brutally killed by a mob over child-lifting rumour on Saturday in the capital’s Uttar Badda area.

The police arrested Ibrahim Hridoy, 19, a vegetable vendor in Uttar Badda, from his aunt’s house in Bhulta, Narayanganj, around 9pm.

Nazmul Hasan Firoz, senior assistant commissioner of DMP (east), said that the police had been looking for Hridoy after they had identified him in a video footage of the gruesome murder.

Hridoy admitted his involvement in the Badda lynching incident during primary investigation, claimed Nazmul Hasan.

Hridoy told the police that on that day, a guardian came to his shop and told that Renu was a child lifter. He along with four-five youths attacked Renu and beat her till death.

Hridoy disclosed the names of the other attackers, said Nazmul Hasan.

The police also recovered Hridoy’s shirt and trousers, which he was wearing that day, from his grandparent’s house in Rupganj, Narayanganj.

On Sunday night, police detained three people named Bappi, Shaheen and Zafar and another person named Bachchu on Monday in connection with the lynching.

Renu, a single mother of two children, went to Uttar Badda Government Primary School to inquire about admission for her daughter.
