An activist of the United People's Democratic Front (UPDF) was shot dead and another was injured in an attack by a group of miscreants in Matiranga upazila of Khagrachari district today (19 March).

The deceased was identified as Astin Tripura, an activist of UPDF (Prasit Group) and son of Basona Tripura.

Local people said a group of miscreants swooped on the house of Astin in Taidang Headman Para in the upazila around 7am and opened fire, leaving Astin dead on the spot and another injured.

Injured Tarapoti Tripura was taken to a local hospital.

However, Angya Marma, a spokesperson of the UPDF, blamed armed members of the Jana Sanghati Samiti behind the attack.

Abu Hena Mohammad Mostafa Reza, officer-in-charge of Matiranga Police Station, said police is year to reach the spot as it is a remote area.
