Trial of Abrar murder case to end soon: Law minister

Law Minister Anisul Huq says that the trial of the Buet student Abrar murder case will end soon after all procedures are completed.

He made the comment to journalists while talking about the charge-sheet of the Abrar murder case at the Secretariat on Wednesday afternoon.

"The home ministry has to file an application for a trial to be held under the Speedy Trial Act. I will request the home minister to file this application. We will complete all procedures quickly when the file comes to the Law ministry," he added.

"If the trial is done under the speedy trial tribunal, it has to be complete within 135 days," the minister also said.

"If the fugitives in the case do not surrender at court within the time limit, a notice has to be published in the newspapers about them. If they do not come even after that, the trial will go ahead showing them as absconders. A gazette notification must then be made," he further said.

Anisul Huq said, "According to the directives of the prime minister and the demands of the people, the case will be tried as soon as possible. People wanted a speedy trial of the Nusrat murder case, and we did it. The trial of the Abrar murder case will also be completed soon."
