Travel ban imposed on former MP Shamsul Alam, family over corruption allegations
Confirming the matter, ACC spokesperson Akterul Islam said the commission had sought the travel restrictions due to concerns that the individuals might leave the country and obstruct the investigation

A Dhaka court has imposed a travel ban on former Awami League backed Member of Parliament (MP) for Joypurhat-1 constituency, Shamsul Alam Dudu, along with his wife Meher Nigar and their children Soheli Nazmin Tania and Meheraj Alam, amid an ongoing corruption investigation.
The order was issued today (7 October) by Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Sabbir Faiz, following a petition filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
Confirming the matter, ACC spokesperson Akterul Islam said the commission had sought the travel restrictions due to concerns that the individuals might leave the country and obstruct the investigation.
According to the petition submitted by ACC Assistant Director Md.Shafiullah, an inquiry is underway regarding allegations that Shamsul Alam Dudu possesses illegal wealth far beyond what he had declared. In his 2014 election affidavit, he listed assets worth Tk22.8 lakh, but recent findings suggest he now owns over Tk1.5 crore in undeclared assets.
The ACC suspects that Dudu, during his tenure as an MP, amassed significant wealth under his own and his family members' names through possible money laundering schemes. The commission cited credible sources indicating that the family could attempt to flee the country at any time.
"To ensure an unhindered and proper investigation, it is essential to restrict their travel abroad," the ACC stated in its application.
Shamsul Alam Dudu was first elected to Parliament from Joypurhat-1 in the 10th National Election in 2014. He was re-elected in 2018 and again in the 12th National Election in 2024 as a candidate of the ruling Bangladesh Awami League.
