Assuming Eid-ul-Adha will be observed on 7 June, Bangladesh Railway has started selling advance train tickets from today (21 May).
According to railway officials, to ease the holiday rush, all tickets for intercity trains over the seven days prior to Eid will be sold exclusively online. The Eid travel period will begin on 31 May.
On the Chattogram-Chandpur-Chattogram route, a pair of special trains – Chandpur Eid Special 1 and 2 – will operate to accommodate increased demand.
As in previous years, the Railway's Eastern Zone has begun repairing 90 coaches at the Pahartali workshop to handle the additional holiday passenger load. Most of these coaches have already been refurbished and handed over to the transport division.
Abu Zafar Majumder, station master of Chattogram Railway Station, said advance ticket sales for Eid-ul-Adha will begin at 2pm today. "Around 8,000 advance tickets for 16 intercity trains will be sold to passengers," he said.
Chief Operating Superintendent (East) Md Shahidul Islam said standing tickets – equal to 25% of the seating capacity – will be available at the originating stations of each intercity train before departure.
Each passenger is allowed to purchase advance tickets only once, with a maximum of four seats per transaction. Tickets will be non-refundable, he added.
