Train derails in Gazipur, cuts Dhaka's railink with the north

Dhaka's rail communication with the country's northern region remained suspended this afternoon after a train coach derailed on the Dhaka-Tangail rail route in Salna area of Gazipur.
Md Nadiruzzaman, in-charge of Joydebpur Railway Police Station, said four wheels of a bogie of the Dhaka-bound Chilahati Express train which was travelling from Nilphamari, veered off the tracks around 2:30pm at Salna, disrupting train communication of the capital with northern parts of the country.
No casualty was reported in the incident.
Passengers of the train were seen getting off and going to their destinations in different vehicles using alternative routes.
Abul Khayer, station master of Joydebpur Railway Junction, said train movement through the northern parts of the country via Jamuna Bridge remained suspended following the incident.
Higher authorities in Dhaka were then informed to rescue the train.
He also said, "Train services with North Bengal will return to normal after a relief train arrives from Dhaka and recovers the derailed coach."
