Govt plans 80 daycare centres to support working mothers
The government aims to enhance women's self-reliance and protect children through improved education, healthcare and employment opportunities.
The proposed budget for FY2026-27 is set to include plans to establish around 80 modern daycare centres as part of efforts to promote women's empowerment and ensure a safe childhood for children.
Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury will unveil his maiden national budget in parliament this afternoon (11 June). The proposed budget is expected to have a total outlay of Tk9.38 lakh crore.
According to the budget document, the government aims to enhance women's self-reliance and protect children through improved education, healthcare and employment opportunities.
Key proposals expected in the budget include:
- Establishment of 20 modern daycare centres for working women in the first phase, followed by an additional 63 centres in subsequent phases
- Rehabilitation and social protection measures for women migrant workers returning from abroad
- Provision of 30kg of rice per month to 1.04 million women under the Vulnerable Women Benefit (VWB) programme
- Strengthening of "Quick Response Teams" to ensure faster action against violence against women and children
- Long-term rehabilitation programmes for street children and children at risk
- Continued operation of 33 integrated child rehabilitation centres across 17 districts to protect underprivileged and vulnerable children
