Third shipment of US wheat arrives at Ctg port
The shipment is part of a government-to-government deal aimed at strengthening Bangladesh's food security.
The third consignment of wheat imported from the United States has arrived at Chittagong Port, bringing Bangladesh's total wheat imports under the current deal to more than 172,000 tonnes.
The vessel MV WF Artemis, carrying 58,359 tonnes of wheat, anchored at the outer anchorage of the port today (31 January), according to a statement from the Food Ministry.
Bangladesh is importing a total of 220,000 tonnes of wheat from the US under a government-to-government (G to G) cash purchase agreement known as G to G-02, signed under a Memorandum of Understanding between the two countries. The first and second consignments, totalling 114,093 tonnes, arrived earlier.
With the latest shipment, the total quantity of wheat received under the agreement has reached 172,452 tonnes.
The ministry said the process of testing wheat samples from the vessel has already begun. Authorities will proceed with rapid unloading once the testing is completed.
Bangladesh has previously imported another 220,000 tonnes of wheat from the United States under a separate G to G agreement, G to G-01, as part of efforts to strengthen food security.
