Tarique Rahman rules out Ducsu election’s influence on national politics

BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman has said the Dhaka University Central Students' Union (Ducsu) election will have no impact on national politics.
"Student politics has its own place, and national politics has its own," he remarked in response to a question during an interview published by BBC Bangla today (6 October).
Tarique Rahman said, "I believe the Ducsu election is a positive step in the country's democratic journey — a good beginning. That's the first point."
"The second point is that I extend my congratulations to those who have won, and advance congratulations to those who will win in the future," he added.
"The third point is this — we've seen the beginning of a forward journey. But we did not want it to be clouded by controversy. I hope that future elections will be held free from such disputes," he said.
Asked whether the results of the Ducsu election could have any impact on national politics, especially ahead of the upcoming national polls, Tarique said, "From what I have seen in various media reports, some individuals — like Manna Bhai (Mahmudur Rahman Manna), who I believe served as VP twice — are far more experienced politicians than I am.
"Considering his remarks, I do not see any reason to believe so. Student politics has its own place, and national politics has its own."
Islami Chhatra Shibir secured a landslide victory in this year's Ducsu elections, capturing nearly all central and hall posts.
On the other hand, Jamaat is elated by the result and hopes to see a repeat in the national polls.
