Tampered luggage, missing valuables reported by passengers at Dhaka airport
Both passengers have filed formal complaints with their respective airlines at the airport.
Two passengers arriving at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport today (26 April) alleged that their checked baggage had been tampered with and that their valuables were missing, raising concerns over luggage handling and security on international routes.
One of the passengers, Shamsuddin, who travelled from New York's JFK Airport to Dhaka via Doha on Qatar Airways, said he discovered his suitcase lock broken after waiting about an hour at the baggage belt.
"By the time I received my luggage, the lock was already broken. I have confirmed that my Apple Watch SE 3 GPS (44mm, Midnight Aluminium Case) is missing. I am still checking if anything else was taken," he told The Business Standard.
He also claimed a discrepancy in the weight of his baggage.
"When I started my journey, I was 40 kg. Now it is 39.40 kg," he said, suggesting possible loss of items during transit.
In a separate incident, another passenger, Shain Mozumdar, who arrived from Switzerland on Saudia, reported that his luggage had been cut open.
However, he has yet to confirm whether any valuables are missing. Both passengers have filed formal complaints with their respective airlines at the airport.
A concerned airport official said, "The airline will verify the claims and share findings with the airport authority. We will determine whether the incident occurred in Dhaka or at the point of origin."
