Successful CSR can make the real change, say speakers
A total of 41 bicycles were distributed among girl students at a function at Basatpur in Jashore today
The effective implementation of corporate social responsibility (CSR) interventions can play important roles in improving the living standard of the underprivileged people, particularly that of the women and girls.
Planned CSR interventions are cost effective, need-based and community-focused that help uplift the poor.
Speakers said this at a function to distribute bicycles among girl students at Basatpur in Jashore today. This activity is a part of a CSR program of City Bank Limited initiated by Management and Resources Development Initiative (MRDI) and implemented by local daily Gramer Kagoj.

Local Member of Parliament Alhaj Sheikh Afil Uddin was the chief guest of the function.
Upazila Nirbahi Officer of Sharsha Pulak Kumar Mondal, District Women's Affairs Officer of Jashore Sakina Khatun, Upazila Women's Affairs Officer of Sharsha Jahan-e-Gulshan, Chief Economist and Country Business Manager of City Bank Ltd Md Ashanur Rahman, Editor of Gramer Kagoj Mobinul Islam Mobin and MRDI Executive Director Hasibur Rahman, attended the programme as the special guests.
Thanking City Bank and MRDI for taking such a noble step, Alhaj Sheikh Afil Uddin MP said, "Education is the backbone of a nation. Girls' education is a priority of the present government. This initiative is an example of how business can contribute to the implementation of the government's development agenda."
Md Ashanur Rahman expressed his satisfaction over the change that took place in the community in last few years as a result of the joint initiative of City Bank and MRDI.
Hasibur Rahman said, "The bicycles will not only make school going easier for girls, but also build confidence in them. Such interventions of City Bank Ltd have shown that CSR fund can be a very effective alternative to donor fund."
Bicycle recipients are the daughters of the members of Basatpur Women and Child Development Organization. The organization runs a skill development training centre for women under the same programme.
A total of 41 girls received the bicycles.
The training centre at Basatpur has opened opportunities for trained women to earn their livelihood through using tailoring and stitching. City Bank is providing about Tk1.25 crore for the centre and education of the children.
