A student of Primeasia University was stabbed to death in front of the university in Dhaka's Banani area today (19 April), following a reported altercation between groups of students.

The deceased, identified as Jahedul Islam Parvez, was a student of the Textile Engineering Department and hailed from Mymensingh.

Confirming the matter, Banani Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Russel Sarwar said the altercation broke out between students of the university's English and Textile Engineering departments around 4pm.

"A student of the Textile Engineering Department was eating Singara in front of the university. At that time, some students of the English Department of the same university were laughing at them. When the Textile Engineering students asked why they were laughing, an altercation broke out.

"At one point, Parvez was seriously injured in a stabbing. Later, he was taken to Kurmitola General Hospital, where doctors declared him dead."

Md Apu, a student of the university, claimed that Parvez was killed by outsiders.

"Around 5pm, as Parvez came downstairs from the university building, two individuals suddenly approached and stabbed him. He died on the spot," he said.

OC Sarwar said an investigation is underway to identify and apprehend the attackers.
