Stolen gold jewelry worth Tk50 lakh recovered in Bagerhat, 3 arrested

Police have recovered approximately 30 bhori of gold jewelry, allegedly stolen from a jewelry shop in Chitolmari upazila of Bagerhat.
The recovery was made from the home of an arrested individual, Emadul Khan, 40, today (8 August).
Chitalmari Police Station officer-in-charge (OC) SM Shahadat Hossain said a gang of thieves stole the gold, worth nearly Tk50 lakh, by cutting open the locker of New Mondal Jewelers in Chitalmari upazila's central market on 4 August night.
Following the incident, Tapas Mondal, the owner of New Mondal Jewelers, filed a case against unknown individuals on 8 August.
Police later conducted an extensive operation and arrested Emadul Khan, who is a tea stall owner and a leaseholder of the Chitalmari market, and also a neighbour of Tapas.
Tapas said, "Approximately 40 bhori of gold jewelry and Tk10,000 in cash were stolen from my shop. I never imagined that Emadul would do so."
Based on Emadul Khan's confession, two other individuals involved in the incident were also arrested — Sajal Basu, 42, another gold trader in the market, and Shubhra Basu, 24, an iron trader.
The grinder machine used to cut the safe was also recovered, police said.
