The government will waive agricultural loans worth Tk5 crore 18 lakh 32 thousand 593 for 6,646 farmers in Bagerhat, as part of its broader development and welfare initiatives in the district.
Alongside the loan waiver, the Department of Agriculture will undertake infrastructure and environmental works, including the excavation of 25 canals covering 48.55 kilometres and the plantation of 38,300 trees to support climate resilience and agricultural productivity.

The information was disclosed at a press briefing held yesterday afternoon at the Deputy Commissioner's conference room, organised by the District Information Office, Bagerhat, highlighting the outcomes of the government's election manifesto-based initiatives, including family cards, canal excavation, tree plantation, women's transport support, farmer cards and agricultural loan waiver programmes.
Deputy Commissioner Golam Mohammad Baten attended the briefing as the chief guest, while it was chaired by Deputy Director of the Department of Mass Communication Muinul Islam.
In his remarks, Deputy Commissioner Golam Mohammad Baten said the current government's initiatives, guided by its election manifesto and the "Bangladesh First" vision, aim to drive employment generation, good governance, healthcare, education, sports development, balanced growth, climate change adaptation, rule of law, and social and food security.
He added that programmes such as family cards, canal excavation, tree plantation, transport support for women, farmer cards and agricultural loan waivers would directly benefit ordinary people, provided implementation is ensured with transparency and accountability.
Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Mezbah Uddin, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Revenue) Anup Das, Deputy Director of the Department of Agricultural Extension Md Motahar Hossain, Deputy Director of the Department of Social Services Santo Kumar Nath, Executive Engineer of the Water Development Board Joyanta Pal, AGM of Agrani Bank Md Shariful Islam, and officials from the Social Forestry Division, including Chinmoy Modhu, were also present, along with leaders of the Bagerhat Press Club and journalists.
