A spotted deer that strayed into a residential area in Bagerhat's Sharankhola upazila has been rescued by the Forest Department, Wildlife Team and local residents.
The deer was rescued around 7:30pm yesterday (18 April) from the house premises of Jamal Mira in Khuriakhali village.
Rescuers said the female spotted deer, weighing around 25kg, had likely lost its way and entered the locality. Local residents spotted the animal and informed the Forest Department.
Officials, along with the Wild Team and volunteers, rushed to the spot and safely rescued the deer.
"With the support of local people, the deer was rescued quickly. Its physical condition was normal at the time of rescue, and no signs of injury were found during initial observation. It will be released into a safe habitat after necessary examinations," said Alam Hawlader, facilitator of the Wild Team.
"Wild animals occasionally enter nearby localities in search of food or due to tidal water in areas adjacent to the Sundarbans, urging people not to disturb such animals and to inform the Forest Department promptly," he added.
The Forest Department said the deer will be kept under observation before being released into a suitable habitat.
