Police today (11 January) arrested Jubo Dal leader Tariqul Islam, an accused in a criminal case who was snatched from police custody at Munshiganj's Srinagar Police Station last night (10 January).

He was arrested from a house in Munshiganj Sadar around 9pm tonight, said Munshiganj Police Superintendent Samsul Alam Sarkar.

Earlier on the day, three people in connection with the snatching of Tariqul were arrested following the filing of a case over the incident.

OC Kaiyum Uddin Chowdhury of Srinagar Police Station was also withdrawn, said Samsul.

"The three arrested following the filing of a case over the snatching of Jubo Dal leader were involved in the incident, and efforts are underway to arrest the others," he said earlier.

Meanwhile, the central committee of Jubo Dal has expelled Tariqul Islam from all positions, including his primary membership.

"Tariqul was expelled from the organisation due to clear allegations of obstructing the work of the state law enforcement agencies by showing muscle power," reads a statement signed by Minhajul Islam Bhuiyan, deputy office secretary of Jubo Dal.

Mentioning that Jubo Dal will not take any responsibility for the expelled members, the statement asked members of the organisation to refrain from keeping any organisational ties with the expelled members.

Jubo Dal leader Tariqul, 40, an accused named in a criminal case, was forcibly taken from Srinagar Police Station last night (10 January) by a large group of BNP activists following his arrest.

Srinagar police arrested him in a case filed over a previous incident of violence.
