'Shop, Fun, Relax': Meridian Kohinoor City opens in heart of Chattogram
Designed as a one-stop lifestyle destination, Chattogram’s first mixed-use complex blends shopping, entertainment and modern amenities.
Chattogram's first mixed-use building, Meridian Kohinoor City, officially opened its doors on Friday at Dampaara, a prime location in the heart of the port city. Launched with the slogan "Shop, Fun, Relax", the new complex aims to redefine urban shopping and lifestyle experiences in Chattogram.
Built on nearly one acre of land along Dampaara WASA Road, the 23-storey structure combines modern architecture with a wide range of international-standard facilities. Designed with public safety in mind, the building is earthquake-resistant up to 8.5 on the Richter scale and features advanced fire-fighting systems, three emergency exit staircases, and a public announcement system to ensure swift communication during emergencies.
Meridian Kohinoor City offers a comprehensive shopping, entertainment, and lifestyle destination under one roof. The mall features a spacious double atrium, two escalators, five elevators, a large drop-off zone, and ample parking facilities, making movement inside the complex smooth and visitor-friendly. Additional amenities include separate prayer rooms for men and women, comfortable seating areas, free Wi-Fi hotspot zones, and designated smoking areas.
Retail and service outlets have been thoughtfully arranged across different floors. The ground and first floors house showrooms of local and international brands. Fashion accessories occupy the second floor, while the third floor is dedicated to ladies' and kids' fashion. Gents' fashion outlets are located on the fourth floor.
The fifth floor features a mobile and technology zone, followed by footwear outlets on the sixth floor. A supermarket and mosque are located on the seventh floor. The eighth floor hosts another supermarket along with the popular children's play zone Babuland, while the ninth floor features the international-standard food court Taste Terminal, offering a variety of global cuisines.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by Chattogram City Corporation Mayor Dr Shahadat Hossain as the chief guest. Meridian Group Chairperson Kohinoor Kamal, along with business leaders, corporate executives, investors, media representatives, and shoppers, were also present.
Speaking at the event, Mayor Dr Shahadat Hossain recalled that the vision of turning Chattogram into the country's commercial capital was first articulated by former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia in 2003. Expressing optimism about the city's future, he said Chattogram must move forward as a commercial hub and added that initiatives like Meridian Kohinoor City reflect that progress.
