Russian Navy ship arrives in Chattogram for goodwill visit
The visiting vessel was greeted in Bangladesh waters by Bangladesh Navy ship BNS Umar Farooq.
A Russian Navy vessel, Gremyashchy, arrived at Chattogram Port today (17 November) for a five-day goodwill visit aimed at strengthening naval cooperation between the two countries.
The ship was received at the port by the Chief Staff Officer of Commander Chattogram Naval Area. A navy band performed as part of the traditional welcome ceremony. Senior officials of the Bangladesh Navy and the Russian military attaché stationed in Dhaka were also present, according to a press release from Bangladesh Navy.
Before docking in Chattogram, the visiting vessel was greeted in Bangladesh waters by Bangladesh Navy ship BNS Umar Farooq.
During the visit, the ship's commanding officer and the Russian military attaché, along with a delegation, will pay courtesy calls on the Commander Chattogram Naval Area, Commander BN Fleet, the Area Superintendent of Dockyard, and the chairman of the Chattogram Port Authority.
Officers and sailors from the Gremyashchy will lay a wreath at Redkin Point at the Bangladesh Naval Academy and tour naval bases, ships, the BN Asha Alo School for children with special needs, and several cultural and historic sites in Chattogram. Members of the Bangladesh Navy will also visit the Russian ship.
Officials said the visit will allow personnel from both navies to exchange professional experience and strengthen operational understanding. The Russian Navy has sent vessels to Bangladesh on goodwill missions in the past as well.
The Gremyashchy is scheduled to depart Bangladesh on 21 November.
