PSC's ex-driver Abed Ali’s son arrested and sent to jail in graft case
A Dhaka court today (20 January) sent Syed Sohanur Rahman Siam, son of Abed Ali, a former driver of the Public Service Commission (PSC), to jail in a case filed over the acquisition of wealth beyond known sources of income.
Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Zakir Hossain passed the order. Aminul Islam, assistant director of the Anti-Corruption Commission's (ACC) prosecution division, confirmed the matter.
Aminul Islam said, "The investigation officer of the case, ACC Deputy Assistant Director Zakir Hossain, produced the accused before the court and sought his detention in jail. Following the hearing, the court ordered Siam to be sent to jail."
"No lawyer appeared on behalf of the accused during the hearing," he added.
According to the case statement, on 5 January last year, the ACC filed the case accusing Siam of acquiring and possessing assets worth Tk37.30 lakh beyond his known sources of income between 3 September 2021 and 30 June 2024.
Earlier in the afternoon, the ACC arrested Siam, a former Chhatra League leader, from the Segunbagicha area of the capital.
The accused has been charged under Section 27(1) of the Anti-Corruption Commission Act, 2004, and sections 4(2) and 4(3) of the Money Laundering Prevention Act, 2012, for allegedly concealing the illegal source of money and assets through conversion, transfer and handover obtained from corruption and bribery.
Earlier, on 30 December 2025, the ACC headquarters approved the submission of the charge sheet in the case. On the same day, the investigating officer submitted the charge sheet to the court.
