Clashes ensue as police obstruct protest march to Assistant High Commission of India in Rajshahi
As the procession advanced towards the assistant high commission residence, police set up barricades and tried to prevent the protestors from proceeding further.
Police blocked a march towards the office of the Assistant High Commission of India in Rajshahi organised by Bharityo Adhipotto Birodhi July 36 Mancha.
The march, titled "March to Assistant Indian High Commission, Rajshahi", began around 12:30pm with 10-15 members of the platform arriving at the Bhadrta Mor in the city with national flags tied around their heads.
Members of the July 36 Platform were seen chanting various anti-India slogans during the programme. At present, members of the July 36 Platform are staging a sit-in on the road about 100 yards away from the High Commission office.
They then began marching towards the Assistant Indian High Commission office located in the Padma Residential Area while chanting slogans. However, they were stopped by the police with barricades in front of the Assistant Indian High Commission office.
Clashes broke out with police when the protestors tried to remove the barricades.
Shahriar Kabir, a member of the July 36 Platform, said, "India is carrying out various forms of aggression against our country. They are killing one after another along the border and killing innocent people of our country. They have given shelter in India to Hasina, whom we consider a killer. India has also sheltered the killers of Osman Hadi. We do not accept Indian aggression."
However, no comment was available from any member of the law enforcement agencies regarding the incident.
