Complete shutdown continues at Cuet for 3rd day, students demand reinstate of VC Sayem
The students also continued a mass signature campaign that began yesterday.
The shutdown at Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology (Cuet) entered its third consecutive day today (24 September), as students continued protesting for the reinstatement of Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Abu Sadat Mohammad Sayem.
Students held a human chain at the university's Central Shaheed Minar premises from 10am, with participants from different departments joining the programme.
Debajit Das Gupta, a fourth-year Civil Engineering student, said Sayem was highly respected by students as a teacher and vice-chancellor.

"Our movement and demand will continue until Sir Sayem is reappointed as vice-chancellor. We have only one demand- we want Sayem Sir back as vice-chancellor," he said.
The students also continued a mass signature campaign that began yesterday.
As part of their announced programme, they are scheduled to hold a torch procession on campus at 6:30pm today.
On 21 September, the Ministry of Education issued a notification removing Professor Dr Abu Sadat Mohammad Sayem as Cuet vice-chancellor and appointing Professor Dr Sheikh Shariful Alam to the post.
Students protested on campus that night. The following day, 22 September, they began an all-out shutdown, halting classes, examinations and other academic activities.
The students said the movement would continue until Professor Sayem is reinstated as vice-chancellor.
