Baridhara crash: Victim's family settles for Tk9 lakh, accused sent to juvenile correctional centre
The accident occurred around 5pm on Tuesday (22 September) on Road No 1 in the Baridhara Diplomatic Zone under Gulshan Police Station.
A Dhaka court has ordered 17-year-old Azan Ali Sharif, arrested in connection with the death of construction worker Mehedi Hasan Mim in a road crash in the capital's Baridhara area, to be sent to a juvenile correctional centre, while the victim's family has reached a Tk9 lakh settlement with the accused side.
Judge Md Abdul Moktadir of Dhaka Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-8 passed the order today (24 September) following a hearing.
Defence lawyer Md Alamgir Hossain confirmed the matter. He said the court ordered Azan to be sent to the juvenile correctional centre following a petition by the investigating officer.

Bangladesh officially calls these facilities Child Development Centres (CDC), though they are also widely referred to in public discourse and media as juvenile development centres or juvenile correctional centres.
"The victim's family and the accused side have reached a Tk9 lakh settlement in this case. We will file a bail petition and submit the settlement deed on the day of the bail hearing," Alamgir said.
The accident occurred around 5pm on 22 September on Road No 1 in the Baridhara Diplomatic Zone under Gulshan Police Station.
A speeding private car lost control, mounted the footpath and ran over construction worker Mehedi Hasan Mim. He was taken to hospital in critical condition, where doctors declared him dead.
The car later hit a streetlight pole. Police said CCTV footage showed the car moving at high speed before mounting the footpath.
After the incident, locals detained a teenager who came out of the driver's seat and handed him over to police. It was later alleged that he had been released.
Mim's brother Moktadir filed a case with Gulshan Police Station over the incident.
The case initially named Akash Marok as the driver of the vehicle.
Police said the investigation later found, based on CCTV footage and other information, that Azan Ali Sharif had been driving the car.
Police arrested Azan from a house on Road No 12 in Gulshan yesterday (23 September).
Today, the investigating officer, Gulshan Police Station Sub-Inspector Md Arifin Islam, produced Azan before the court and sought an order to keep him in custody.
In the petition, the investigating officer said preliminary evidence had been found of Azan's involvement in the incident.
He also said the investigation was ongoing and that keeping the teenager in custody was necessary for a proper investigation.
