'Bhua, Bhua': Mirza Abbas jeered by shot Osman Hadi's supporters during DMCH visit
The BNP nominee for the Dhaka-8 seat, reached the Emergency Department of DMCH at around 4pm
BNP Standing Committee member Mirza Abbas faced an unexpected backlash from supporters of the injured Sharif Osman Hadi when he arrived at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) this afternoon (12 December) to visit the Inqilab Mancha leader.
Mirza Abbas, who is the BNP nominee for the Dhaka-8 seat, reached the Emergency Department of DMCH at around 4pm. Upon arrival, members of the Inqilab Mancha and Hadi's supporters immediately began shouting "Bhua, Bhua - (Fraud, Fraud)" slogans aimed at the BNP leader.
The situation required intervention from security personnel who were present at the scene. They escorted Mirza Abbas and provided security to allow him to enter the hospital premises while the protesters continued to chant various slogans.
Muhammad Talebur Rahman, deputy commissioner of DMP (Media and Public Relations Division), confirmed that Sharif Osman bin Hadi, the convener and spokesperson of Inqilab Mancha, was shot in the head by assailants on motorcycles in the Box Culvert Road area of Bijoynagar shortly after Jummah prayers at around 2:25pm.
He said that there were three attackers on a motorcycle who shot Hadi and fled the scene.
Hadi, who was set to contest the upcoming election as a likely independent candidate from the Dhaka-8 constituency, was rushed to DMCH following the incident.
At 3:50pm, Inspector Md Faruk, in-charge of the Dhaka Medical Police Outpost, said that Hadi's condition was critical and he was being taken into the operation theatre for surgery.
