People won't get justice if Hasina's verdict isn't executed quickly: Nahid
Not only Sheikh Hasina, but the Awami League as a political party and its allied parties must be brought under trial, says Nahid
The people of the country will not receive justice unless the International Crimes Tribunal's verdict against ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina is executed quickly, National Citizen Party (NCP) Convener Nahid Islam said today (22 November).
Speaking after a mass rally held by NCP in Dhaka, Nahid said, "This is not political revenge, rather, it is justice for 16 years of human rights violations and repression."
The rally began at around 4:15pm today from Eskaton Garden Road in the capital.
The NCP leader said that not only Sheikh Hasina, but the Awami League as a political party and its allied parties must be brought under trial.
He also warned that the people would not accept the "conspiracy" to rehabilitate the Jatiyo Party ahead of the election.
Criticising the role of the Indian government, he said that if India truly wants good relations, it must immediately return Sheikh Hasina to Bangladesh.
Nahid also urged Indian youth to demand that no individual accused of genocide be granted shelter.
He added that all cases involving enforced disappearances, repression, and violence must continue, and the post-election government must make clear commitments regarding these issues.
He called on all pro-democracy forces to remain united in favour of justice and reform.
