NCP divides 64 districts into 19 zones for party activities, sets 40 as min age for conveners
The party decided to establish a 'discipline and investigation' committee in response to allegations against several NCP leaders
The National Citizen Party (NCP), at its third general meeting yesterday (18 April), divided 64 districts into 19 zones to strengthen organisational activities and set the minimum age for conveners of district and upazila committees at 40.
At the meeting, NCP Chief Organiser (northern region) Sarjis Alam and Chief Organiser (southern region) Hasnat Abdullah presented policy proposals.
According to the proposal, the country's 64 districts will be grouped into 19 zones to streamline organisational activities. Committee structures were also outlined, with district-level committees comprising 31 to 51 members and upazila-level committees consisting of 21 to 41 members.
The NCP general meeting addressed several key issues, including the formulation of regional organizational policies and reform proposals, as well as programmes demanding the trial of Awami League members accused of genocide and the holding of elections for a Constituent Assembly, said a press release issued today (19 April).
Additionally, the party decided to establish a 'discipline and investigation' committee in response to allegations made against several NCP leaders and members on social media and in public forums. The committee will be announced tomorrow (20 April).
The meeting, presided over by party convener Nahid Islam and moderated by member secretary Akhtar Hossain, took place at their temporary central office at Bangla Motor in the capital.
The meeting called on the government to adopt effective measures to end border killings.
The discussions also addressed pressing international and domestic matters, including a condemnation of the continuing Israeli violence in Gaza, a show of solidarity with the anti-Waqf law movement in India, and a demand for government action to control escalating commodity prices and ease public suffering.
The Dhaka Metropolitan unit of the NCP is set to hold demonstrations this week, calling for justice, reforms, and elections to the Constituent Assembly, said the media release.
