Nahid urges EC to announce election schedule only after ensuring political stability
He stressed that the schedule must be announced at a time when the political atmosphere is stable enough for all parties
National Citizen Party (NCP) Convener Nahid Islam has urged the Election Commission (EC) to announce the election schedule only after ensuring political stability and resolving the ongoing political crisis, particularly at a time when BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia is critically ill.
Speaking after the party's newly obtained registration certificate today (3 December), Nahid said, "We have told the EC that the schedule should be announced in consideration of the current political circumstances."
It is the commission's responsibility to create equal opportunities for all political parties to present themselves, he added.
Nahid said there is still no clarity regarding the schedule, despite growing expectations from political parties.
"The EC should announce the schedule in line with the prevailing political situation. But the commission is yet to make any clear statement," he said, adding that the NCP has formally placed this demand before the EC.

He stressed that the schedule must be announced at a time when the political atmosphere is stable enough for all parties to operate and campaign on equal footing.
NCP leader Nasir Uddin Patwari also spoke to reporters, saying the referendum would have been more effective with a single question – whether citizens agree or disagree with implementing the July Charter.
"With so many questions now, the matter has become complicated," he said.
Patwari emphasised that public awareness must be built not only through government ministries but also through active citizen engagement.
He further paid tribute to leaders who fought for democracy and spoke about the public sentiment surrounding ailing BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia.
"The respect for Begum Zia is not limited to the BNP. People across the country have emotional ties and feelings for her," he added.
