NCP receives EC registration certificate, condemns writ petition against RPO amendment
Nahid reiterated the party's position that 'every political party should contest under its own symbol'
The National Citizen Party (NCP) received its registration certificate from the Election Commission (EC) today (3 December).
Party convener Nahid Islam accepted the document at the Election Commission Building in the capital's Agargaon this afternoon.
Speaking to reporters, Nahid Islam welcomed the recent amendment to the Representation of the People Order (RPO) and strongly condemned the attempts to pressure authorities into scrapping the reform, including the move to challenge it in court.
He stated that the party's central and grassroots leaders had worked "tirelessly" throughout the registration process.
Expressing gratitude to the EC, he noted that despite many hurdles, the party finally secured its symbol and would participate in the upcoming election under "Shapla Koli".
Nahid reiterated the party's position that "every political party should contest under its own symbol," urging the EC not to retreat from this principle.
He alleged that a particular party has been pressuring the government and other institutions to push for "one-symbol elections" and is now seeking to use the courts to overturn the reform.
The NCP has urged the EC to take a "firm stance" on the matter.
The party also voiced concern over the "growing influence of money and muscle" in elections.
Nahid Hossain said they requested the EC to thoroughly verify candidates' affidavits and strictly monitor election spending, calling for swift action against those circulating black money.
On the transfer of deputy commissioners and superintendents of police, Nahid claimed political influence continues to play a role and warned that such interference could affect the electoral process.
The NCP also urged the EC to ensure adequate public awareness on the referendum issue.
Nahid cautioned that without proper dissemination, citizens would not receive accurate information.
He further called on the commission to implement special measures to curb misinformation and disinformation during the election period.
