Labour Party joins Jamaat-led 10-party alliance
"To establish justice and fulfil the aspirations of the July revolution, we have joined Jamaat in this new journey," said Labour Party Chairman Mostafizur Rahman.
The Bangladesh Labour Party has formally joined the electoral alliance led by Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami ahead of the upcoming 13th national parliamentary election scheduled for 12 February.
Speaking at a press conference held at Jamaat's central office in the capital's Moghbazar this evening (24 January), the party's Assistant Secretary General ATM Masum said, "Our electoral alliance candidates have already been finalised and are busy campaigning in their constituencies. Today, I am delighted to announce that the Bangladesh Labour Party, as a patriotic force, has declared solidarity with our electoral unity,"
Speaking to journalists, Labour Party Chairman Mostafizur Rahman Iran said that the party believes what is needed is not just a change of power, but a meaningful transformation of the state.
"To establish justice and fulfil the aspirations of the July revolution, we have joined Jamaat in this new journey," he said.
Regarding election preparations, Masum said the alliance had completed seat-sharing arrangements through discussions with partner parties.
"Although the Labour Party joined at the last stage, they will work unitedly across the country to ensure victory for alliance candidates," he said.
Masum further dismissed allegations raised by BNP and other quarters about "buying votes through collecting bKash numbers or NIDs" as completely baseless and false.
"A certain group is deliberately spreading fake news to spoil the electoral environment. Jamaat or this alliance is not involved in such activities," he said.
Leaders of other alliance partners, including NCP, Bangladesh Khilafat Majlis and Jatiya Ganotantrik Party, were also present at the press conference.
