Khaleda Zia's bank accounts unfrozen after 17 years
In 2007, during the tenure of the caretaker government, the bank accounts of both Khaleda Zia and Sheikh Hasina were frozen
BNP Chairperson and former prime minister Khaleda Zia's bank accounts have been unfrozen 17 years after they were frozen in 2007.
The Central Intelligence Cell (CIC) of the National Board of Revenue (NBR) unfreezed eight of Khaleda Zia's bank accounts today (19 August), a senior CIC official told The Business Standard on condition of anonymity.
The official did not disclose the current balances in the accounts.

In 2007, during the tenure of the caretaker government, the bank accounts of both Khaleda Zia and Sheikh Hasina were frozen. After Sheikh Hasina became prime minister, her bank accounts were revived by the NBR, while Khaleda Zia's accounts remained frozen.
Despite multiple requests and demands from the BNP, the NBR did not comply.
However, Khaleda Zia's bank accounts were unfrozen within two weeks of the interim government led by Dr Yunus assuming power following the fall of Sheikh Hasina's government on 5 August.
