Khaleda Zia recognises visitors but remains unstable: Mirza Abbas
'You can see her condition: sometimes she is slightly better, sometimes worse. At this moment, I personally believe she is not stable,' says BNP leader Mirza Abbas.
BNP chief Begum Khaleda Zia, currently under intensive monitoring by doctors at Dhaka's Evercare Hospital, is able to recognise those visiting her, but her condition remains unstable, BNP Standing Committee Member Mirza Abbas has said.
Speaking to reporters outside the hospital after 1:30am today (29 November), Abbas said people were now seeing the consequences of the persecution the former prime minister had faced under the previous government.
"You can see her condition… sometimes she is slightly better, sometimes worse. At this moment, I personally believe she is not stable. With more advanced treatment, she might improve."
Khaleda Zia is undergoing treatment in the coronary care unit (CCU) of Evercare Hospital.
Emphasising that the BNP would ensure the highest level of treatment for its chairperson, Abbas said, "She is not perfectly all right… but she may recover, Insha'Allah."
He also urged everyone to pray for her well-being.
Sharing his experience from inside the hospital, the BNP leader said, "We tried talking to her from a distance; she recognised us, and when we greeted her, she responded."
Earlier, shortly after midnight, BNP Standing Committee Member Abdul Moyeen Khan told awaiting journalists that Khaleda Zia's medical board had reviewed her condition and was taking all necessary measures.
Khaleda Zia is being treated under a medical board comprising local and foreign specialists.
Doctors have confirmed infections in her heart and lungs.
Earlier, yesterday afternoon, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, quoting doctors, said her condition was "extremely critical."
Meanwhile, expressing concern over her health, Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus also sought prayers from the nation.
Besides, Law Adviser Professor Asif Nazrul visited Evercare Hospital yesterday to inquire about her condition.
The former prime minister has long suffered from heart disease, diabetes, arthritis, liver cirrhosis, kidney complications and other ailments.
She was rushed to Evercare Hospital last Sunday after experiencing breathing difficulties.
