Jatiyo Party announces candidates for 243 seats
Announcing the candidates, party Secretary General Shamim Haider Patwary said they may withdraw from the election if a level playing field is not ensured
The Jatiyo Party (JaPa) led by GM Quader has announced its candidates for 243 constituencies in the upcoming 13th national parliamentary election.
The party Secretary General Shamim Haider Patwary disclosed the final list of candidates at a press conference held at the Lakeshore Hotel in Gulshan yesterday (26 December).
Speaking at the event, Shamim said, "The Jatiyo Party may withdraw from the election if the law and order situation does not improve and a level playing field is not ensured."
He reiterated that the party has always respected the people's mandate and remained committed to electoral politics.
"The precondition for a fair, free and participatory national election is a stable law and order situation and equal opportunities for all parties. Ensuring this is the responsibility of the interim government," he added, expressing concern that the government was failing to meet that responsibility.
He said the party leaders and activists across the country were eager for a "festive election" with the participation of all parties.
He noted that candidate selection had been challenging in many constituencies due to multiple aspirants, but the final list was published after verification.
"We still hope the interim government will ensure a level playing field so that the Jatiyo Party can take part in the election in a meaningful way," Shamim added.
The press conference was attended by several senior Jatiyo Party leaders, including presidium members.
