Govt must answer why faulty aircraft are flying: Hasnat Abdullah
The NCP leader called for an impartial probe into the tragic Milestone School and College plane crash, stating, “The confusion over the death toll must be cleared.”
The interim government should give an explanation over the continued operation of malfunctioning aircraft, National Citizen Party (NCP) Chief Coordinator (southern region) Hasnat Abdullah said today (23 July).
"Why should faulty aircraft still be flying? The government owes us an answer," he said while addressing the party's July March rally at the Town Hall premises in Cumilla.
The NCP leader called for an impartial probe into the tragic Milestone School and College plane crash, stating, "The confusion over the death toll must be cleared."
The tragedy occurred on 21 July when a Bangladesh Air Force jet crashed into Milestone School and College in the capital's Uttara area, claiming the lives of 29 people, mostly children, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
Earlier, the Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) in a press release stated that the death toll in the aircraft crash soared to 31 and the number of injured was 165.
The rally began with a minute of silence in memory of those who died.
Speaking at the event, NCP Chief Coordinator (northern region) Sarjis Alam said, "We don't know how much more blood needs to be shed due to systemic failure. This system must change. We must unite with our July fighters to build that change."
NCP Senior Joint Convener Samanta Sharmin and Chief Coordinator Nasiruddin Patwary were also present at the rally.
