A few trying to make people forget the Liberation War: Fakhrul
Fakhrul stated that some parties and individuals were trying to blame the BNP for political purposes

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has alleged today (12 October) that some people are trying to make the nation forget the 1971 Liberation War by distorting and erasing its history.
"We must keep in mind that we became independent because of the war of 1971. It is because we achieved independence that we can think anew in a new state. "It is because we became independent that we can now continue the struggle for the economic emancipation of our people," Fakhrul said.
All of a sudden, they have introduced the PR system, which the people do not understand. They are using this as a tool to delay the election process and to deprive citizens of their right to vote
He made the remarks today while addressing a memorial meeting at the Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU) auditorium organised by the Jatiyatabadi Samomona Jote on the second death anniversary of Democratic League General Secretary Saifuddin Ahmed Moni.
Fakhrul stated that some parties and individuals were trying to blame the BNP for political purposes.
"All of a sudden, they have introduced the PR system, which the people do not understand. They are using this as a tool to delay the election process and to deprive citizens of their right to vote," he said.
"The people of this country will not accept the PR system or anything imposed on them." "We want to see the government's commitment to holding the national election in February next year. The people want an election through which democracy can be restored," he added.
"We have been fighting against fascism for the past 16 to 17 years. Through the movement of students and the general public, that fascist regime was forced to flee. Now an opportunity has emerged to return the country to a democratic system — we must not lose this chance," Fakhrul further said.
He also alleged that various rumours were being spread daily to mislead people. "But I believe the people of this country never make mistakes. They always move forward on the right path," Fakhrul said.
The event was presided over by Fariduzzaman Farhad, chief coordinator of the Jatiyatabadi Samomona Jote and chairman of the National People's Party.
