Fakhrul stresses equal, respectful ties with India, warns against conspiracies
Fakhrul also criticised India over longstanding water disputes, claiming Bangladesh has been denied its rightful share of Teesta and Farakka waters

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has emphasised that Bangladesh's relationship with India should be based in mutual respect and equality, insisting that friendship between the two nations must come without interference in the country's internal matters.
Speaking at a memorial event in Kapasia of Gazipur, he alleged that individuals responsible for oppressing and torturing citizens in Bangladesh had fled to India and sought refuge there.
The programme was arranged commemorating the ninth death anniversary of former BNP standing committee member Brigadier General (retd) ASM Hannan Shah.
At the event, Fakhrul also criticised India over longstanding water disputes, claiming Bangladesh has been denied its rightful share of Teesta and Farakka waters.
Warning party supporters against misinformation, he said efforts were being made from various quarters to undermine and weaken the BNP. He urged leaders and activists at all levels to remain vigilant and prepare for the upcoming elections.
Referring to Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus, Fakhrul said people have entrusted him with forming a neutral advisory board to ensure a free and fair election acceptable to all parties.
However, the BNP leader voiced concerns over perceived bias among some advisers, stressing that both the BNP and the citizens of Bangladesh expect full neutrality and fairness.
Fakhrul highlighted the BNP's role in initiating reforms, noting that the party's 31-point programme is aimed at bringing renewed hope to the people of Bangladesh.
