Elections possible before December with reforms: CPB’s Ruhin

Elections can be held before December if proper reforms are implemented, Communist Party of Bangladesh (CPB) General Secretary Ruhin Hossain Prince said today (26 March).
Speaking to journalists after paying respects at the National Martyrs' Memorial in Savar around 10:15am on the occasion of Independence Day, he also stressed the need for electoral reforms.
His remarks come after Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus yesterday reiterated that the national election will be held between December this year and June next year.
"I have said before and I am reiterating again, the election will take place between December this year and June next year. We want the upcoming election to be the most free, fair, and credible in the history of Bangladesh," he said during his speech to the nation.
For this, the Election Commission has started making all necessary preparations, the chief adviser said. "I hope that political parties will begin preparing for the elections with great enthusiasm and excitement."
Today, the CPD leader also said, "We have said that the electoral system must be improved. The time already spent on this has been a delay. If those responsible had engaged with political parties to discuss ways to ensure fair elections, they could have presented a solution by now," he said.
Prince urged for immediate discussions on electoral reforms.
"On behalf of the Communist Party, I am saying with responsibility—let a team start discussions with political parties from tomorrow on how to reform the electoral system. It will not take even two months. Therefore, we believe elections are possible in Bangladesh before December if proper reforms are carried out," he added.
CPB Assistant General Secretary Mihir Ghosh, party leader Sajjad Zahir Chandan, and other leaders were also present.
