Constituency boundaries: EC hears 5 districts on claims, objections

The Election Commission (EC) is holding its fourth and final day of hearings on claims and objections to the draft parliamentary constituency boundaries today (27 August).
The hearing, held at the Election Building auditorium, began at 10am and will continue until the afternoon.
On the final day, the EC is hearing seven claims and objections from Rangpur, 232 from Rajshahi, three from Mymensingh, 18 from Faridpur, and two from Sylhet.
The final decision on the boundaries will be published once the hearings are complete.
Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin is presiding over the session, with EC Senior Secretary Akhtar Ahmed conducting proceedings. Other election commissioners are also present.
The constituencies under review include Panchagarh-1, Panchagarh-2, Rangpur-1, and Kurigram-4; from the Rajshahi region, Sirajganj-2, Sirajganj-5, Sirajganj-6, and Pabna-1; from the Mymensingh region, Tangail-6, Jamalpur-2, and Kishoreganj-1; from the Sylhet region, Sylhet-1; and Faridpur-1, Faridpur-4, Madaripur-2, Madaripur-3, Shariatpur-2, and Shariatpur-3 from the Faridpur region.
The EC received 1,760 petitions concerning 83 constituencies by 10 August.
These are being settled through the hearings, after which the final boundaries will be published. The process will conclude by 27 August.
On 30 July, the EC published the draft boundaries for all 300 parliamentary constituencies.
To ensure balance in voter numbers, the draft proposes reducing Bagerhat's constituencies from four to three, while increasing Gazipur's from five to six.
