'Committed to justice, truth': Shafiqur says Jamaat will not bow to any 'evil force'
He also called on colleagues to stand firmly beside the general public.
Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Shafiqur Rahman has said the party, staying committed to "justice and truth," will not bow to any "evil force" and will build strong protest and resistance wherever attacks occur.
Addressing party colleagues in a post from his verified Facebook page at 6:50am today (15 February), the Jamaat chief enquired about their condition in the post-election environment.
Shafiqur alleged that reports are coming in from different parts of the country of unruly behaviour by members of a "particular political party," including attacks, vandalism, arson and even harassment of women over voting for the Jamaat-led 11-party alliance.
"From various parts of the country, we are receiving distressing reports of attacks, vandalism, arson and even harassment of our respected women centred on voting for the 11-party symbol," he wrote.
The Jamaat ameer reaffirmed his commitment to what he described as justice and truth.
"We will not bow to any evil force. Wherever such attacks take place, we must stand beside the oppressed with the people and build strong protest and resistance," he wrote.
He also called on colleagues to stand firmly beside the general public.
"Remember, this is a demand of humanity, a demand of love for Almighty Allah and a demand of love for the country. We are determined to fulfil this responsibility. There is no room for weakness in this matter," he added.
