Chhatra Shibir-backed panel unveils 36 point Ducsu manifesto

The 'Oikkoboddho Shikkharthi Jote' panel, backed by Bangladesh Islamic Chhatra Shibir, has released its manifesto for the upcoming Dhaka University Central Students' Union (Ducsu) elections, promising 36 reforms to be implemented within 12 months.
Presented by co-general secretary candidate Mohiuddin Khan, the manifesto prioritises six areas: safe campuses, housing solutions, female student security, healthcare and hygienic food, improved transport, and comprehensive career support.
It pledges to eliminate authoritarian politics, violence, the "guestroom" culture, discriminatory practices, drug abuse, extortion, harassment, Islamophobia, and cyberbullying.
To ease the housing crisis, the panel proposes temporary hostels in collaboration with private institutions, monthly allowances, and long-term hall construction. It also promises quality faculty cafeterias, safe transport for female students, relaxed hostel rules, and maternity leave with attendance flexibility.
Campus modernisation plans feature a 'Paperless Registrar Building,' a one-stop service for students planning to study abroad, scholarships for physically challenged students, and upgraded science workshops, CARS, and CARASS facilities.
Safety measures cover controlling outsiders, evicting hawkers and vagabonds, introducing registered rickshaws, and enforcing zero-tolerance policies against harassment, supported by a strengthened complaint cell and legal aid.
Transport improvements involve new buses, shuttle services, and real-time mobile tracking. Environmental initiatives focus on noise control, traffic management, and monthly cleanliness drives, while cultural efforts aim to promote local heritage and values.
The panel emphasises that these reforms will create a safe, inclusive, and academically supportive campus, fostering student welfare, equity, and community-oriented development.
