BNP focused on democratic transition ahead of polls: Khasru
BNP Standing Committee Member Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury has said the party is currently prioritising Banglades democratic transition as the nation moves toward a general election.
Speaking after an event at a Chattogram hotel today (14 November), Khasru said the people's foremost demand is restoring democratic order, which is possible through a free and fair election.
A parliament formed through elected representatives will be accountable to the people, something that has been absent in Bangladesh for the past 15 to 16 years, he added.
He emphasised that the accumulated national issues can only be resolved through a government elected by the people.
Healthcare
Khasru spoke earlier as the chief guest at "MVT Summit – 2025," the largest health and medical-tourism-focused international conference in the port city, held at the hotel, organised by the Chattogram Medical Travel Forum (CMTF) with support from the Bangladesh Medical Tourism Association.
He reiterated the BNP's pledge to provide free primary healthcare for all citizens, acknowledging that it will require significant government expenditure.
Healthcare is a right of citizens and a responsibility of the government, he said, adding that the party plans to invest up to 5% of GDP in health and education if voted to power.
Khasru said financial and logistical barriers prevent many from seeking treatment abroad, making it essential to develop advanced healthcare locally and attract foreign expertise.
The BNP leader stressed the need to expand advanced medical services in Chattogram so that residents are not compelled to travel to Dhaka for quality healthcare.
