BNP again files ICT complaint over 'crossfire' killings, disappearances of 2,276 leaders and activists
In the complaint, BNP claimed that false and fabricated incidents were created as part of a planned effort to eliminate and destroy the party through killings in the name of crossfire
The BNP has again filed a complaint with the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT), seeking investigation into the alleged killing and disappearance of 2,276 leaders and activists.
Salahuddin Khan, executive member of BNP's central committee and coordinator of its case and information preservation cell, submitted the complaint to Chief Prosecutor Aminul Islam today (11 May).
According to the complaint, BNP and its associate bodies were subjected to planned repression during the Awami League government from 2008 to 5 August 2024. It alleged that BNP leaders and activists were abducted, forcibly disappeared, tortured, detained for long periods, and later killed in the name of crossfire with the support of Awami League, Jubo League, Chhatra League, Krishak League and some law enforcement agencies.
The complaint claimed that 2,276 people were killed in the name of crossfire during that period, including 1,776 leaders and activists of BNP and its associate bodies.
The BNP also said that on 8 January 2025, it had submitted a 243-page complaint along with necessary evidence to the then chief prosecutor of the tribunal, Mohammad Tajul Islam, who had assured justice.
However, despite repeated written reminders, no effective steps have been taken and there has been no progress in the case so far, the party alleged.
In the complaint, BNP claimed that false and fabricated incidents were created as part of a planned effort to eliminate and destroy the party through killings in the name of crossfire.
It also said the families of the victims are still waiting for justice and urged the tribunal to investigate the allegations and initiate trial proceedings against those responsible.
