Atiqul promises a healthy, modern Dhaka in election manifesto

Atiqul Islam, the former mayor of Dhaka North City Corporation and Awami League mayoral candidate for the upcoming polls has promised to build a healthy, vibrant and modern Dhaka.
He outlined the promise while unveiling his election manifesto today at a press conference held in Dhaka.
In his manifesto, Atiqul promised to implement mosquito repellent activities throughout the year by using Integrated Vector Management (IVM) – a decision-making process for the optimal use of resources for disease-vector control – like the developed world.
He also vowed to build a women-friendly Comprehensive Reproductive Health Care Centre and a Primary Health Care Centre in the Dhaka North area; remove waste strategically and convert it to energy by establishing Resource Recovery Facilities in Amin Bazar; and ease air pollution by using mist blowers and other modern technology.
Atiqul Islam pledged to make area-wise pedestrian-friendly footpath networks for Dhaka residents and people with special needs by freeing them from encroachment.

The mayoral candidate also plans to jointly implement plans with different organisations including the police, the Bangladesh Road Transport Authority and the Dhaka Road Transport Owners Association to ease traffic, build zebra crossings and Digital Push Button Signals for safe crossing.

Other ideas include: introducing digital e-ticketing services and ensuring well-controlled and women-friendly public transport.

To take complaints from citizens, Atiqul Islam promised to introduce a smartphone app titled "Sobar Dhaka" (Dhaka for all), through which, Dhaka North residents will be able to place their city-related problems directly before the mayor.

The manifesto also includes a plan to build a 24-hour Digital Command Center, through which security of the city, disaster management, and smart neighbourhood operations will be managed.
