A food cart owner in the capital's Dhanmondi, who was detained by police on Wednesday after his cart was allegedly destroyed, has been released. Police also freed his friend who had come to his aid.

The young man was released after signing an apology letter, and his friend was freed hours later, Dhanmondi police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Ali Ahmed Masud told The Business Standard today (13 March).

Earlier, Sub-Inspector of Dhanmondi police station Saidul Islam said, "Last night, one person was released on bail. This morning, the person who got bail came to release his friend. Both of them have been sent to the DC officer of Ramna Division of the police."

He added, "The magistrate at the DC office will decide on the detained person."

A video of the food cart owner's detainment has been circulating on social media.

In the footage, he can be seen questioning the police about the destruction of his cart, saying, "I have to come to the streets to earn, despite being a college grad. Can you give me a job? Why did you then destroy my only source of income?"
