Police must stay fully impartial in upcoming national polls: DMP commissioner
Those involved in the tainted 2018 national election must be brought to justice, he says
Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner SM Sazzat Ali has directed police members to carry out their duties with complete neutrality in the upcoming national polls.
"The police must perform their duties one hundred per cent impartially. No weakness can be shown towards any political party or individual," he said while addressing police members at the Grand Welfare Meeting held at the Rajarbagh Police Auditorium today (30 October), according to a press release issued by the DMP's media wing.
Terming the upcoming parliamentary election as highly significant, the DMP chief said, "For a long time, people in this country have been deprived of their right to vote. We must fulfil our responsibility to ensure that people can exercise their right to vote without any hindrance."
He further said, "Those involved in the tainted 2018 national election must be brought to justice."
The DMP commissioner also urged police personnel to remain vigilant while dealing with illegal gatherings, advising them to avoid any actions that could create misunderstanding or distance between the police and the public.
