TIB report on rising crime in capital does not match police data: DMP commissioner
He said police presence had been increased in crime-prone areas.
Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Mosleh Uddin Ahmed today (23 July) said police data do not support Transparency International Bangladesh's (TIB) findings that crime has increased in the capital.
Speaking to reporters after inspecting Shahbagh Police Station, he shared his observations from his first two months in office, saying the city's overall law-and-order situation had improved.
He said police presence had been increased in crime-prone areas, with uniformed and plainclothes officers conducting round-the-clock patrols.

"As a result, incidents such as theft and mugging have declined," he said.
Mosleh Uddin also said the DMP had taken steps to improve the mental well-being of police personnel and reduce workplace stress.
Responding to a question about recent suicides among police personnel, he urged officers experiencing mental stress for personal reasons to seek assistance from their superiors.
The DMP commissioner said initiatives had also been taken to modernise officers' accommodation and police barracks at stations across the capital.
